I’ve given up on American politics but Ron Paul hasn’t

Ron Paul 2012
All I’ve ever wanted from my adopted nation is to see a resurgence in values aligned with individual liberty and freedom. Tragically, I do not see that happening anytime soon. I have given up on American politics. I am now a passive or active member of the civilly disobedient. Whether or not my subterfuge and non-cooperation with the system will have any meaningful impact remains to be seen.

I will say, though, that I’ve realized I am in a small, vocal minority when it comes to what I want out of government, especially at the federal level. I really want a national DEFENSE (not offense) and not much else. Everything else should be handled at the state or local level. The problem is, that won’t happen without a rebellion. The Ron Paul Revolution isn’t enough. That’s because the system is not an honest one. It is a two-party shell game and the prize is federal tyranny light. That prize gets passed back and forth between the two parties, always with the same end game, less local control of affairs, and more centralized control of affairs.

A system that slowly saps more and more power from the state and local levels will inevitable become unmanageable, and will ultimately collapse under it’s own weight. How and when that will happen remains to be seen. Anyone putting an ear to ground cannot fail to notice that there are rumblings. Something big is coming. It may still be around the bend, but the United States is seething with discontent. Unfortunately, that discontent is often a manifestation not of liberty minded individualists but of those Americans who have been trained to expect that the federal government will take care of their every need from cradle to grave.

It is unfortunate that a man like Paul doesn’t have a chance in hell of being elected President. He might be able to foment some of the shrinkage that is absolutely necessary if the federal government wants to survive long-term. Paul’s ideas are radical to generations who are used to being promised everything under the sun by the power brokers in Washington, D.C. The sad truth is that those empty, undeliverable promises will keep flowing until the ship hits the iceberg and goes down. That may be 10 or 50 or even 100 years off, but it’s coming. America is on a downward spiral.

I’m not the only one who believes bad times are coming, times that will make the current financial doldrums look like a boom. Check out a few of the sites where you can educate yourself on the doom that people feel is coming, and how to  prepare for it. The Preppers are real, and they are serious.

Prepper (noun): An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances or lifestyle without significant reliance on other persons (i.e., being self-reliant), or without substantial assistance from outside resources (govt., etc.) in order to minimize the effects of that change on their current lifestyle.

Here are just a few of the more popular and active sites/articles for preppers:

  1. Reddit.com Collapse subreddit
  2. Why are millions of preppers preparing for the end of the world?
  3. American Preppers Network
  4. Practical Preppers
  5. Prepared Society

Sure, some of the people you’ll find hanging out at the above forums and related links are nuttier than a squirrel getting ready for winter. A lot of them, though, have realized that the federal government cannot and will not solve their problems. How can it? The federal government is run by dysfunctional bureaucrats who do not take fiscal responsibility seriously. They have shut the only man who is serious about reducing the deficit almost completely out of the political process. Ron Paul stand on stage after stage trying to get people to listen, but his air time is minimal. He is dismissed as a curmudgeonly closet racist by pundit after pundit. We all know conventional ‘wisdom’ must be right, right?

Not all of us. Many of us are watching in the wings, waiting to see what we think we already know. Freedom and individual responsibility are lost causes in the United States of the 21st century. The cycle of history is doomed to repeat itself when vain, arrogant leaders remain in charge of a system while pretending to oversee and improve a failing machine. America is a failing machine and the mechanics we pay to tend her are sleeping on the job. If Super Tuesday turns out as I expect it will, the prepper movement will continue growing as more and more people try to get off the grid and out of the way of the fail machine before it explodes and crushes them.

The post I’ve given up on American politics but Ron Paul hasn’t appeared first on will to exist.
